Abstract | A summer happening for children was organized and analyzed according to the ideas that educational accountability means that the system of education should provide both data and information about the educational process and examine educational outcomes. A major goal of the program was to generate an awareness for first year participants of the concepts of open education, team teaching, individualized instruction, open space, and educational media. The report presents evaluation models for school districts to assess their open education programs, including both standardized and unobtrusive measures. It provides measurement instruments for data collection from parents, teachers, and children with the teachers' instrument emphasizing classroom observation and the children's stressing school-related attitudes. The report stresses the need to develop self-examination and evaluation techniques in the school district. (Author/BJG) |
